“Which came first? The dog or the tree?”
Out of the countless games of I-Spy on the chairlift, I met this one kid who wanted to play “Questions,” which in his mind meant a mix between riddles and philosophy.
“Okay, here is a question. What came first? The dog or the tree?” – 5 yo skier
“The dog?” – me playing along.
“WRONG. The tree came first, because if there was no trees then there was no dogs to breathe the air!”
Smart kid. Okay, time to stump him: “What came first? The chicken or the egg?”
… With no hesitation: “The egg!”
“But what about the chicken? If there were no chickens then where did the egg come from?” – Me
And it went on like this for the rest of the chairlift. So if you are looking for a good way to avoid playing I-Spy for the millionth time. Get some great philosophical questions memorized and ask your kids. They may be able to solve them.
